Q-MAC Releases TA-99 Auto Tuner

Q-MAC is proud to announce the release of the ultra-compact TA-99 Auto-Tuner. Weighing in at just over 650g and half the size of the existing TM-90 manual tuner the new auto tuner is a perfect companion for the HF-90 and HF-90M in Manpack configurations.

The TA-99 Auto-Tuner is designed for use with the following Q-MAC Antennas.
QM7301 – Collapsible Whip Antenna. (6 Section –3m.  2.5 - 24MHz)
QM7302 – Collapsible Whip Antenna. (2 Section –1m.  3.5 – 24MHz)
QM7309 – Flexible Tape Whip Antenna. (1m.  3.5 – 24MHz with gooseneck)
QM7310 - Longwire Antenna. (7m, with 5m Counterpoise, 2 – 20MHz)

The TA-99 Auto-Tuner is available as an optional upgrade to the HF-90 Manpack. The TA-99 only takes 3 seconds to tune. When idle the TA-99 uses almost no current thus providing a highly energy efficient solution. Q-MAC also prides itself in designing highly RF efficient Tuners. Like the TM-90 Manual Tuner the TA-99 ensures that 100% of the RF power from the Transceiver is converted to Antenna current thus maximizing the full potential of the 50 watts of power available from the Q-MAC HF-90 & HF-90M Transceivers (already double of most competitor Manpacks)

Q-MAC Launches NEW Vehicle Mounted Magnetic Loop Antenna

Q-MAC is proud to announce the launch of its keenly awaited vehicle mounted Magnetic Loop antenna. The Q-MAC HF-90 NVIS Vehicle Packages are a technological breakthrough in vehicle-based HF radio communications. At the core of the system is the well renowned HF-90 transceiver, which is combined with the all-new Magnetic Loop Auto Tune antenna.

There is a choice of two packages; 1. Fixed transceiver installations or 2. Transportable transceiver package for dual Vehicle and Portable use. Both packages use roof racks that can be mounted without drilling or damage making them ideal for rental vehicles or short-term use.

The antenna in this package, the Q-MAC ML-90 Magnetic Loop Antenna, is without doubt the best type of antenna for NVIS (near vertical incidence skywave) operations.

Skip zone caused by the Zenith null of whip antennas, is a thing of the past, and coverage is from 0 to 1000Km or more. Within this range it is significantly more efficient than any whip-type vehicle antenna, producing considerably more effective transmit and receive power. The actual gain over whip antenna systems varies with frequency between +10dB & +14dB. The benefit to the user is that it sends out more power, and it magnifies received signal strength, giving overall performance significantly higher than can be achieved from any vehicle whip antenna system.

Applications where the ML-90 is particularly useful include, Border Patrol, Peace Keeping, Aid & Relief, Emergency Response & Conservation Services.

Q-MAC Minipack - Ultra Portable Communications

Q-MAC Electronics, manufacturer of the HF-90, the world’s smallest 50W HF radio, has announced the launch of the MINIPACK Portable Base Station.  As the name suggests, this is a very small radio package; far smaller than any other portable HF station available on the world market.  And Q-MAC’s proprietary military-grade Frequency Hopping is offered as a standard option for those applications demanding covert, discrete or secure communications.

The package contains a Q-MAC HF-90 Transceiver, a 4Ah rechargeable battery pack and a special covert broadband antenna and AC mains charger. The contents fit tightly in to a “submersibly” waterproof  carry case with an all up weight of only 4 KG.

HF radio is the ideal point-to-point and/or broadcast medium for long-range communications that cannot rely on a third party link provider (e.g. satellite, mobile telephone network), and where no other infrastructure exists. The MINIPACK is ideal for all personnel who are on the move, whether in a vehicle, on a horseback or on foot, and who need the convenience of a quickly deployed system with a discrete antenna.

It’s small size and light weight make this an ideal radio when discretion and load carrying capacity are critical.

The MINIPACK delivers the same 50W PEP transmit power as all other Q-MAC radios, yet remains very economical on power consumption.  The HF-90 has 255 programmable channels, is data capable and Selcall compatible.

If a portable “stop-and-deploy” radio is what you are after, and if size and weight are an issue, then look no further than the Q-MAC MINIPACK.

In common with other variants of the Q-MAC HF-90, the radio is incredibly simple to use and program.  Because the MINIPACK uses the same transceiver device as the Q-MAC PORTABLE, MANPACK, VEHICLE PACK and BASE STATION, no cross-training is needed when converting personnel to the new model.

The MINIPACK Broadband Antenna is another technical breakthrough from Q-MAC’s development engineers.  In order to make a wire antenna “broadband” – to operate over a range of frequencies without a tuner - conventional wisdom says you have to put a resistive load into the end of the antenna.   Not so with the MINIPACK Broadband Antenna!  Instead of a box containing resistors, the construction and nature of the wire itself changes.  The main radiating part of the antenna is high-strength PVC-covered copper.  This is hermetically bonded to a stainless steel wire of much thinner diameter that is itself resistive.

Anchoring the end of the antenna is much less critical as it can literally just be tied to a branch or hung over a fence.  Says Rod Macduff, Q-MAC’s Technical Director,  “This antenna performs as well as our standard Portable Broadband, plus it’s smaller and lighter.  Rigged between buildings, or between a building and a tree it is almost invisible till you’re right on top of it.  It is absolutely ideal for our new MINIPACK Portable”.

A pair of sealed lead-acid gel-cell batteries, giving a total of 4Ah, provides battery power.  This is enough capacity to run the MINIPACK for around five and a half hours on a 10% duty cycle (10% transmit 90% receive).  Battery chargers are optional, according to end user requirements.  The neat MINIPACK AC charger fits into the case.  The MINIPACK is also compatible with the other standard chargers in the Q-MAC product range, including a DC fast-charger, a folding solar panel, and a hand crank generator.

Q-MAC’s advanced Frequency Hopping is a recommended option.  If the use of fixed frequency communications risks inviting interference from potentially dangerous warring parties in the area of operation, Frequency Hopping mode can be selected offering extremely secure communications on an agency’s own “private network”.  In Frequency Hopping mode it is very difficult for anyone to detect the presence of the radio’s transmissions, and impossible for anyone to jam signals or listen in.

Small on volume; light on weight; big on power; discrete in performance!  The Q-MAC MINIPACK delivers!. Click here for more info.

HF-90 Disaster Response Package

In order to address requests from aid/relief agencies for an ‘all-in-one’ HF communications package, Q-MAC has decided to put together a new package – the HF-90 Disaster Response Package. This package is available for immediate delivery.

The package contains the Q-MAC HF-90 Transceiver plus a variety of antennas, power/charger systems, carry packs/cases and mounting accessories. Using the appropriate combination of HF-90 Transceiver and accessories the operator will have the ability to set up a manpack (‘walk and talk’), portable, vehicle or fixed base station system. Such a package offers full flexibility to the operator in the field, who may not know what type of communication system is required until a disaster area has been surveyed.

The Disaster Response Pack has been utilised by Peace Keeping forces in Africa to provide a rapid response communication infrastructure.

Frequency Hopping Option

The HF-90 Frequency Hopping Option is an integral module within the HF-90 Transceiver. This option enables secure, jam-resistant HF communications to a military standard.

The development of the HF-90 Frequency Hopping Option represents a significant breakthrough in the field of military HF communications. For the first time, end users have access to a product which is affordable, yet offers a very high grade of voice security.

More information on this new option can be found here.
